Chocolate Valentine Spoons for Hot Chocolate

Chocolate is the ultimate comfort food…

How to Make Chocolate Valentine Spoons for Hot Chocolate | Bakerette.com

And cheese. And bread. But we’re going to talk chocolate today because I freaking love it so much.

Not only is chocolate good for you–yes, I said good for you because it’s really a fruit, or maybe it’s a veggie, I don’t remember. But no matter. It’s good for you. No really, it is. It comes from cocoa beans. The cocoa tree grows cocoa pods (fruit) and inside the cocoa pods are the cocoa beans. Some say that makes it a fruit, but others say because it’s a bean, it’s a veggie. But either way, fruits and veggies are good for you and so that means chocolate is good for you, too. Are you following my rationale here? Good.

Which brings me to these freaking cute chocolate Valentine spoons made to stir in your hot chocolate. Yep. Chocolate plus chocolate equals heaven.  As soon as the cold weather hits, I break out the hot chocolate. It’s one of my all-time favorite drinks. I LOVE to dip buttered toast in hot chocolate and now I love dipping these chocolate Valentine spoons, too! Stir your hot chocolate with these spoons and the hot drink will melt the chocolate and you have a great treat to sip on. This is a fun activity to do with your kids or grand kids. You melt the chocolate and pipe it onto the spoon and the kids can help decorate and assemble the bags and give to their friends or classmates or whomever.

Which reminds me, have you tried my Nutella Hot Chocolate? No? Ummm, it’s amazingly good. These Valentine spoons would be awesome in it, too!

I remember when my kids were young and they took Valentine’s to their classmates. They’d get a shoe box, cut a hole in the top, decorate the box and take it to school to collect their Valentine cards and goodies in. The kids were so excited and proud of their creations. I think Mr. Chef got more into helping the kids decorate their boxes than the other way around. LOL. One year he got a bouquet of helium balloons to tie to Sister Chef’s box. Sister Chef is just lucky her box didn’t fly away! :) But she was the envy of the classroom! I remember watching her run up to the school with box in hand and balloons in tow when I dropped her off. Awwww, such great memories!

To complete your goodie bag, I made this cute Valentine card for you to print out and attach to your treats. Click here for the printable version. I know. I’m fabulous.

Valentine-cardYields: 20

Ingredients

  • 12 ounces chocolate candy melts in red or pink
  • 20 red or white plastic spoons
  • Heart sprinkles
  • 1 plastic sandwich bag (i.e. Ziploc)
  • 20 hot chocolate packets (I used Original Swiss Miss because the packets are red)
  • 20 treat favor bags
  • Curling ribbon in Valentine colors
  • 1/8 teaspoon Peppermint extract (optional)

Instructions

  1. Line a cookie sheet with parchment paper or foil and lay out the spoons on the cookie tray with their handles resting around the edge of the baking sheet. This helps the spoons remain level while filling them with chocolate (less messy too!)
  2. Get a drinking cup out and put the plastic sandwich bag inside the cup and fold over the edge of the glass. This makes it easy to pour the chocolate in when ready.
  3. Melt the chocolate candy according to the manufacturer’s instructions. If desired, mix in peppermint extract for a mint flavor. Pour the chocolate into the plastic sandwich bag that is prepared in the cup. Cut off a very small corner of the bag. This will be your decorator’s bag to pipe the chocolate on the spoons.
  4. Drizzle the chocolate on the spoons. To make the chocolate smooth out on the spoon, lightly jiggle the spoon until the chocolate flattens. Decorate with heart sprinkles.
  5. Place in the fridge for about 15 minutes to harden and remove.

To Assemble:

  1. Get out the hot chocolate packets, ribbon, and favor bags.
  2. Stuff the favor bags with one hot chocolate packet and one chocolate-filled spoon. Tie off the bag with the ribbon of your choice and attach to your Valentine cards!

  1. Super duper cute!! My favorite hot chocolate when not homemade is in the mexican section of the grocery store called “Abuelita’s” It has cinnamon and cloves and it is YUMMY! These spoons would make a great addition!
