  • Cake Ingredients
  • 1 white box cake mix
  • Red and blue food coloring
  • Red, white and blue sprinkles
  • White vegan buttercream frosting to cover two 8-inch round cakes
  1. Lightly grease and flour two 8-inch round cake pans and set aside.
  2. Make a white cake according to recipe or package instructions.
  3. Divide batter into two separate mixing bowls. Add red food coloring to the first bowl of batter to desired intensity. Add blue food coloring to the second bowl to desired intensity. Pour red batter into prepared cake pan and blue batter into second prepared cake pan.
  4. Bake according to cake instructions. Cool for five minutes in pans before turning out onto a wire rack to cool completely.
  5. Frost the top of the blue cake, layer with the red cake, and frost the entire cake. Garnish with red, white, and blue sprinkles. For a really festive twist, just before serving, add a sparkler to make this cake sizzle.
