Moisturizing Lotion Recipe For Your Hands, Feet, or Overall Body

I realize this recipe isn’t something to “eat”

But it’s definitely a recipe that’s soothing and healing! Not to mention it makes a great homemade gift! I’ve been using this moisturizing lotion on my hands, feet, legs, arms–okay, so I use it as an overall body moisturizer, but I’m telling you, it’s the best homemade lotion ever! the best hand cream! The best foot cream!

By mixing baby lotion, Vaseline, and Vitamin E together, you’ll create a healing and soothing power that you normally can’t get alone from ordinary creams and lotions. The Vitamin E promotes healing, the glycerin in the baby lotion moisturizes, and the Vaseline acts as an emollient to help retain the moisture.

For a sleeker feel, eHow.com suggests increasing the ratio of baby lotion; and for a richer-feeling lotion, it suggests mixing a half cup of Vaseline with a half cup of Crisco. Crisco serves as a cheap and effective body moisturizer. Huh. Who knew?

For an amazing smell, I would suggest adding fragrance to the mix, such as a 1/2 tsp of Almond Oil.

I whipped up a batch and gave it to my friends in this cute little gift bag full of homemade cream (in the white jar), candle, homemade soap, scrubber, and of course, a dab of homemade chocolate (for overall comfort!)! The perfect “take care of me” gift.

Here’s the recipe so you can make some too:

Ingredients

  • 2 cups (16 oz.) baby lotion
  • 1 cup (8 oz.) Vaseline or 1/2 cup Vaseline and 1/2 cup shortening
  • 1 cup (8 oz.) Vitamin E Cream
  • 1/2 teaspoon Almond Oil (optional)

Instructions

  1. Combine all ingredients in a large mixing bowl and beat with an electric mixer until well blended and smooth; almost resembling icing.
  2. Slather it all over your skin and work it into your hands, feet, and body. You’ll feel your skin turn as smooth as a baby’s bum :)
  3. Store in an airtight container.

So easy…

  1. Thanks for the tip. We tried your recipe, slightly modified, and really enjoyed it. I have a skin condition and need thick lotion so we used 1 part vaseline, 1 part vitamin E cream, and 1 part smelly lotion with a high glycerin content. I had vaseline total care Oat on hand but it was too heavily scented and thin for me to use alone so this saved me from wasting it. This way I can use a pretty smelling lotion while still getting the intense moisturizer I need. Thanks for sharing. :-)
