Thee Best Old Fashioned Buttermilk Pancakes

Just like grandma made, these Old Fashioned Buttermilk Pancakes are moist, fluffy, and flavorful. Thee best.

Around this time of year, I buy a jug of buttermilk. I don’t know why, because I don’t like drinking it. Have you drank a glass of it? Am I alone in my thoughts that this milk alone is nasty? So how can something so nasty taste so good when you bake with it? Like, for instance, I’m in LOVE with these old fashioned buttermilk pancakes. I’m not just in “like”, I’m in “love”. So if you aren’t a buttermilk fan, like me, don’t overlook this recipe. You’ll think you died and went to heaven when you taste them. So moist. So fluffy. So flavorful. So dang good!

  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt (if you use salted butter, decrease salt to 1/2 teaspoon)
  • 1-2 tablespoons vegetable oil or cooking spray
  1. In a large bowl using an electric mixer, beat t he eggs on medium speed until frothy.
  2. Add the buttermilk, melted butter and vanilla and mix well.
  3. Add the flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda and salt, and beat on medium speed just until blended. (You may have a few lumps, but don't worry about it.)
  4. You can also mix this together using a wooden spoon or whatever you have.
  5. Heat lightly greased griddle for each pancake.
  6. Cook until the tops of the pancakes are covered with tiny bubbles and the batter is set (about 4-6 minutes). Flip pancakes and cook until the undersides are golden brown (about 4 minutes more.)
