Sweetheart Muddy Buddies

As some of you know, I started  up a new job…After a three-month hiatus of being at home, cooking, cleaning (okay, well, maybe not cleaning–wishful thinking on my part), and enjoying MY time, I am now back in the working world.

I’m sooo grateful to have a job and I’m sooo grateful to be working for such a great man and company. That being said…I sooo miss ME time. Oh how I miss me time. I definitely have had to re-evaluate my time and how I can keep up my love of blogging and food, be a mom, a wife, a grandma, housekeeper, church go-er, and work more than full time.

Any suggestions? Cuz I’m certainly open to them–within reason.

One of my blogging friends gets up at 4:00 am to cook and get everything done before her day begins with family and job. I am seriously considering that. The hard part is not having natural lighting at that time of morning to photograph. Shooting in the dark with artificial lighting isn’t the best; but given the alternatives I can live with that. Is that within reason? Is that insane?

I will continue to chew on that thought…

Speaking of chewing…have you chewed on these Sweetheart Muddy Buddies before?

Sweetheart Muddy Buddies
Prep time
Total time
Serves: 5 cups
  • 5 cups Corn Chex cereal, divided
  • 6 ounces white chocolate chips
  • 6 ounces red candy melts
  • 1 teaspoon shortening, divided
  • 1 cup strawberry cake mix, divided (I used Pillsbury)
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar, divided
  • 6 ounces Valentine's M&Ms
  • 2 gallon-size Ziploc bags
  1. Divide Chex cereal into two separate mixing bowls (2.5 cups in each)
  2. In a microwave-safe dish, add white chocolate chips with 1/2 teaspoon shortening. Microwave on high for 30 seconds, stir, and continue microwaving in 30-second intervals until chocolate is completely melted. Don't cook it too long or it will start to burn and harden. Pour over first bowl of Chex cereal and fold in until completely coated.
  3. In a microwave-safe dish, add red candy melts with 1/2 teaspoon shortening. Microwave on high for 30 seconds, stir, and repeat as above. Pour over the second bowl of Chex cereal and fold in until completely coated.
  4. Divide the strawberry cake mix and powdered sugar into two Ziplock bags. Pour each bowl of chocolate-coated cereal into each bag and shake until well coated. Pour both bags into a large mixing bowl, fold in M&M's and enjoy!

I’m thinking about making this for Easter just by changing the flavor of cake mix, using the pastel m&m’s and different color candy melts.
Actually this can be changed out for any holiday really.

Oh, Yum. I have had the Buddy Mix before but never made like this. The strawberry flavor sounds wonderful.
    Thank you
