Toasted Almond Whole Wheat Bread

Almond Whole Wheat Bread(578x388)Inspired by Betty Crocker, this easy to make, healthy whole wheat bread is made with toasted almonds. It is full of flavor and its hearty texture tastes great with butter and homemade jam!

Ingredients (1.5-pound recipe)

Yields: 12 slices

  • 1 cup, plus 2 tablespoons water
  • 3 tablespoons agave nectar
  • 2 tablespoons Earth Balance butter stick, softened
  • 1 1/2 cups bread flour
  • 1 1/2 cups whole wheat flour
  • 1/4 cup slivered or chopped almonds, toasted*
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons quick active dry yeast**

Ingredients (2-pound recipe)

Yields: 16 slices

  • 1 1/4 cups water
  • 1/4 cup agave nectar
  • 2 tablespoons Earth Balance butter, softened
  • 2 cups bread flour
  • 2 cups whole wheat flour
  • 1/4 cup slivered or chopped almonds, toasted*
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons quick active dry yeast**

Instructions

  1. Measure carefully, placing all ingredients in bread machine pan in the order outlined above.
  2. Select Whole Wheat or Basic/White cycle. Use Medium or Light crust color. Do not use delay cycles.
  3. Remove baked bread from pan and cool on wire rack.

* Toasting Tip: Toast the almonds by sprinkling them in a skillet and cooking over medium-low heat. Stir frequently until gold brown (approximately 5-7 minutes). Pour them out of the skillet so they don’t continue to brown, and let them cool before using.

** Yeast Tip: The same amount of yeast is needed for both the 1.5-pound and 2-pound loaves.
